The Sparkling Stars

The sparkling stars,

Silkily sprinkle the sky,

Making the black coat covering the world,

Intertwined with small lights.

Twelve sisters,

A dog,

And a duo of Greek gods,

Live among many others ruling the night from above.

Occasionally a blazing star,

Rockets around the universe,

Causing worlds to look in awe,

Whilst it makes its way through the perilous blackness.

Sometimes these shining stars destroy themselves,

Making themselves into a hole of darkness,

Sucking in the beauty around them,

To make an evil and ruthless star eating machine.

We are thought of as humungous,

Among our mere world,

As we rule over the insignificant animals,

Who traipse through our muds and deserts.

But in the whole universe,

Full of sizzling and sparkling stars,

And powerful planets,

We are nothing.

Anthem for Doomed Youth

What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?

Only the monstrous anger of the guns.

Only the stuttering rifles rapid rattle

Can patter out their hasty orisons.

No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;

Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,

The shrill, dementedchoirs of wailing shells;

And bugles calling for them from sad shires.

What candles may be held to speed them all?

Not in the hands of boys but in their eyes

Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes.

The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;

Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,

And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.

My thoughts

I like the A, B, A, B rime scheme in the first half of the poem.

I like the Iambic pentameter throughout the poem (10 syllables).

I like the effectiveness of some the alliterative lines as they make you imagine that particular thing. For example: “Only the stuttering rifles rapid rattle can patter out their hasty orisons.”

The Move

The move was stressful and tiring,

All of were angry and mad,

The move emotional and exciting,

All of us were ecstatic and sad,

The move was fearful and nerving,

All of us were jittery and strained,

The move was tearful and aggravating,

All of us were struggling and pained,

Our emotions were confused then hidden,

It’s been a wild rollercoaster we’ve ridden.
